Makkah is the birthplace of prophet Muhammad [pbuh]and a site of the revelation of the holy Quran, Mekkah is regarded as the holiest city in the religion of Islam and a pilgrimage to it known as the Hajj is obligatory for all able Muslims.
More than 15 million Muslims visit Makkah annually, including several million during the few days of the Hajj.
The ancient or early name for the site of Makkah is Bakkah (also transliterated Baca, Baka, Bakah, Bakka, Becca, Bekka, etc.)which is also in the holy BIBLE.
Baca (in Psalms) or Bakka (in Quran) refers to Mecca (Makkah, Saudi Arabia) where the first house of worship on earth was appointed by God for human beings. This house is the Holy Kabah to which all Muslims face while praying and go for Hajj (pilgrimage).
Holy Bible_Psalm 84:5-6 [New International Version] (NIV)
5, Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
6, As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. [The well here is the well known well of Zam-Zam, still present now, close to the Ka'bah; after thousands of years].
The name Mecca (Makkah) is mentioned in the Holy Qur'an in 48:24. Another name for Makkah is Bakka, depending on the dialect of the tribe: this is also mentioned once, in Sura 3:96
"Verily, the first house (of worship) appointed for mankind was that in Bakka (Mecca), full of blessing, and guidance for all people." Amazingly enough, this word Bakka is mentioned by the prophet David (PBUH) in the Bible:
